Its Not Love, It’s Not Lust, Settle Down Boys, It’s Just A Crush

This past Friday we held our annual Valentine’s Day pre-celebration, the Alpha Phi Crush Party. This was my first big event as Director of Chapter Events and, as you read on, you’ll see it was quite a success.
Sisters had the opportunity to secretly invite their personal crushes to the party in hopes that their potential dates would show up the night of the Crush Party. Weeks in advance, I sent out personalized invitations to each of the crushes. Luckily, every crush accepted his invite.
Thanks to sister Angelica Cordero, we were able to host the Crush Party at the Omega Bar in Virginia Beach. The night was filled with dancing, great food and even greater company. Each Alpha Phi sister looked stunning in her stylish cocktail dress. Some were even decked out in light pinks, magenta, reds and purples to play along with the Valentine’s Day theme. Yet others went for a fun cobalt blue dress or kept it classic with the time honored LBD.

The DJ spun riveting dance beats that allowed sisters and their crushes to break into incredible dance moves on the floor while Omega provided those resting with fun finger foods like chicken wings and chips and salsa.
Clearly, our Crush Party was a huge success and I am so proud of how the event played out. I had a fabulous evening with my sisters and could not think of a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

#SpringBidDay2012

New Year, New Girls

This past week was a whirlwind of excitement for Alpha Phi.  As a chapter, we participated in Spring Recruitment.

Last Monday we had a rush event called  “Tea with the Phi’s.”  The event was set up as a pleasant tea party that supplied the room with pastel color pallets and soft room anesthetics that furnished a delicate look.

Last Tuesday, Alpha Phi participated in a “Cookie Decorating” party that permitted a fun craft and socializing during the rush party.  Participates got the opportunity to decorate heart shaped sugar cookies while socializing with sisters.

After these two parties Alpha Phi participated in “Preference” as the third and final night of spring recruitment.  This gorgeous and important ceremony was a favorite of the sisters.

After the three rounds were over, Alpha Phi participated in “Bid Day” that was a blissful celebration for both sisters and new members. The clever theme for Spring 2012’s Bid Day was “Twitter.”   This was a hit theme with both sisters and new members.  After Bid Day the sisters and new members went to a preferred on campus restaurant for pizza and socialization with the new pledge class.

Alpha Phi now has seven new women to call as their Spring 2012 pledge class, and I am proud to say that each one of these new members are ecstatic to be pledging Alpha Phi.  I was thrilled with how this past week went, and I am excited to watch this new pledge class grow with Alpha Phi and watch the impact that Epsilon Eta will make in these women’s college lives.

To PHI or not to PHI Is That Really A Question? What’s Not To Love? The week has arrived my friends! Spring Recruitment is finally here! All the preparations and planning has come to an end. So now its time to take a breath and get excited to meet the lovely new ladies! I still can’t believe the time has arrived to meet (possibly) my future sisters! It is so exciting to meet a group of women who specifically want to join our chapter. Alpha Phi is such a wonderful sisterhood filled with an amazing community of women. We are all diverse individuals and have different goals in life but at the same time we have similar interests that pull us together. All the women of Alpha Phi have something wonderful and different to bring to the chapter. Plus, it is always exciting to to meet and have new girls join our wonderful family. I mean what’s not to love about a group of women who are goal oriented and have similar interests as you? For me, being a part of such an amazing organization has made me a stronger person inside and out. Since I’ve joined Alpha Phi, I’ve gained better skills in organization, communication, and studying habits. Three important skills I will need to apply all throughout my life. I’m thrilled to know women want to join and learn more about Alpha Phi. Spring recruitment is going to be an eventful week full of bonding festivities and laid back ways of getting to know our soon to be sisters!

Curls, Pearls, and Beautiful Girls

One of the most rewarding parts of sorority life in Alpha Phi is bonding with your sisters! Last weekend Alpha Phi started off this semester with a lot of fun. After our usual Sunday chapter meeting, our chapter found out we had a surprise! The Alpha Phi Executive Board planned a ‘Date Dash’ directly following our meeting.  Each sister had 30 minutes to find a fun date and get to a location where we could all enjoy ourselves.

Date Dash was a fabulous way for us to all reconnect after a long winter break and a great time was had by all! We got to dance, hang out, and meet everyone’s dates. Plus, everyone looked gorgeous in their formal black dresses and pearls! I can’t wait to see what other events our chapter has in store this semester!

Spring Rush for Alpha Phi is about to start.  Its an exciting time for both current sisters and women around campus wanting to join in on the sorority life fun.
Here is a list of reasons why men and women should rush!
Alpha Phi was a great decision on my part, and I would recommend it to anyone :)
Top Ten Reasons To Go Greek!

10. Social Aspect: Being Greek gives you something to do with your free time.  Have something fun to do. Provides you with a network of friends. There is always somebody to get ice cream with or to go catch a movie with. There are many different types of socials to attend as well.

9.  Resume/Success: Being Greek gives you another activity to add to your resume. Over half of U.S. Presidents have been Greek as well as 80-90% of Fortune 500 company executives. You must be a successful person to be in Greek Life, and others that are Greek will understand this in the workplace.

8. Sense of Belonging: College is a difficult time for everybody. Joining a Greek organization gives you a sense of belonging to something. It helps you designate yourself on your campus. Greek life will also enhance your college experience.

7. Lifelong Skills: Belonging to a Greek community provides you with a variety of vital lifelong skills. Recruiting alone teaches you to meet new people, be confident, and how to have a meaningful conversation. It also teaches you how to be a part of a business, and many times a leadership position will put you in charge of running the business. Time management and responsibility are also skills learned in Greek life.

6. Sisterhood/Brotherhood: Joining a sorority or fraternity helps you find the sister or you never had or always wanted. It also provides a home away from home. You will have a house you can go to any time you want full of your sisters or brothers, or you might even live there. There will never be another dull moment in your college experience. You will have an unlimited amount of Greeks to go to a movie with or express your problems.

5. Academics: Greek life provides you with many ways to help you with your grades. Most campuses have strict GPA rules that they enforce. Sororities and fraternities are always holding study tables, giving you a quiet place and a designated time to do your studies.

4. Leadership: Greek organizations present you with a path to become a leader. Within your house there are a number of positions you can run for, from making a scrapbook to remember the year, to being in charge of recruiting individuals, to academics. It is also easy to get involved with your National Panhellenic Council or your Interfraternity Council.

3. Opportunities: Joining a Greek organization opens up endless amounts of opportunities. These opportunities will be in your own house, your campus, your community, and the world. Many of the Greek organizations are International.

2. Giving Back/Being a Better Person: Being Greek allows you to better yourself, your community, and your sisterhood. You will be able to participate in community services, help raise money for your philanthropy, raise awareness about your philanthropy, etc.

1. Lifetime Membership: Joining a sorority or fraternity allows you to belong to a lifetime membership. Once you join, you will always have your sorority or fraternity, and your sisters or brothers.
